Dispur is the capital city of the state of Assam, which is situated on the outskirts of the city of Guwahati. After the division of Assam into two smaller states, namely Assam and Meghalaya, Dispur was made the capital of Assam in 1973. The city of Dispur features the Assam Secretariat, State Emergency Operations Centre and Assam Assembly House.
A popular tourist attraction, Jatia is an ancient township which is located close to the city of Dispur.
